Customers want speed, but they want people
WhatsApp has become the front counter of Brazilian businesses: according to Sebrae, Brazil's small business agency, 82% of small businesses use the app as their main channel for contact and sales. At the same time, customers don't want to talk to a bot that doesn't solve anything. In a Locaweb survey from February 2026, 73.2% of people said they prefer being served by people, and the biggest complaints were slow replies, generic messages and conversations closed without a fix.
The CX Trends 2026 study, by Opinion Box with Octadesk, points the way: 63% of consumers value it when the bot can hand the conversation over to a human agent.
AI handles the repetitive stuff
- Answering questions about hours, address, payment options and lead times.
- Asking the first questions and understanding what the person is looking for.
- Booking appointments, sending a standard quote and reminding the customer to follow up.
- Organizing contacts so no one is forgotten at the end of the day.
People handle what matters
Negotiation, complaints, unusual questions and any customer who asks to talk to someone. The rule is simple: AI should never trap the customer in a maze. Whenever it gets stuck, the conversation goes to a person, with the history attached.
How to set it up without losing your style
- Start with the ten questions you get most often.
- Write the answers in your company's voice, not in robot text.
- Decide when the conversation goes to a person.
- Train the team and review the conversations in the first few weeks.
Done this way, customers get an answer right away, the team stops answering the same thing twenty times a day, and there is time left to sell.
